Verbal’s Reading Rooms celebrated Halloween in style, teaming with Eason and Foyleside Shopping Centre for a scary Halloween book-themed festival, SBOOKY, full of treats and horrors for the family!
Across the Halloween weekend, Reading Rooms held face-painting sessions, zombie dances, treasure hunts and more, alongside shared reading sessions, looking at some spine-tingling stories. The Book Burglar was also creeping around Foyleside, trying to nab our books, but we were safe with some very observant children on the look out!
As everyone knows, Harry Potter is beloved by young children, so all our visitors really enjoyed playing about with out magical green screen, putting on their best scary faces and wizard impressions. The children were also busy designing their own book covers, drawing their favourite book characters in Halloween costume.
The SBOOKY fun and games were also part of Awakening the Walls, a supernatural illuminated animation trail around the City’s Walls. At Verbal Arts Centre, Miss Trunchbull (from Roald Dahl’s Matilda) was at hand, giving out clues to solve and riddles to unravel in our Sbooky School House. Bruce Bogtrotter was also at Verbal, with some treats to eat (if he hadn’t ate all of them first…) and plenty of scary tales on offer. As you can see, there was lots of excitement and frightment on offer!
