We asked, and you responded… in partnership with Poetry NI, we present our Poetry Day Ireland Mix Tape, bringing together recordings of contemporary poets from across Ireland.
There will be plenty of reading and reciting of poems to celebrate Poetry Day Ireland. But we feel it is vital to revel in listening to poetry as well. So here is our collection of auditory allegories, sonorous stanzas and versified voices. All the tracks are available to download for free from our Soundcloud page.
Geraldine O’Kane, Poetry NI: “We often hear it said poetry is a solitary pursuit, and if you cannot participate in the live poetry scene, that can indeed be the case. While that is a thing of refuge and beauty, there is always the one poem that gets away: no matter how well crafted that poem may be or how many times it’s read, there is just something missing. This is the sheer joy of this collection of recorded poems, joining the poet with the poem in where the magic happens, breathing life and clarity into poetry in a way reading alone cannot do.
“It reminds us of the strong aural roots which poetry comes from. It was more than a pleasure to listen to so many wonderful submissions, and to put voice to many names I’ve read over the years. May you enjoy your Poetry Day Ireland in as many mediums as is possible!”
Poetry Day Ireland happens countrywide today (27th April). This year’s theme is Poetry Connects, with everyone invited to join-in, link-up, and connect through the power of poetry. Check the Poetry Ireland website for events happening near you, download resources and free poems, and get involved.
