12NOW writer Paula Matthews has released her debut poetry pamphlet, The Shadow Behind Me, out now via Lapwing Poetry.
“This is my debut collection which I began developing during my poetry mentorship with Moyra Donaldson. It has themes of family, loss and hope and as usual, my interest in mental health shines through in the work. I was delighted to have the opportunity to work with Lapwing, Dennis Grieg is an amazing man and has so much wisdom to share. It was ideal for an emerging writer to have the chance to talk poetry with him!”
We at Lagan are very excited to see Paula expand into the realm of poetry, having already achieved success in the fields of theatre and children’s writing. Paula’s poems has previously been featured in FourXFour Poetry Journal from Poetry NI, as well as Honest Ulsterman and A New Ulster, amongst others.
Paula is also lead editor for The Launchpad, which currently have a submission call out for their next issue.
“We are a small local journal showcasing writing and illustrating for children with an Irish/Northern Irish interest. We will be accepting submissions throughout April and hope to invite contributors to a launch event in May/June. This issue will be illustrated by the talented Debbie Duff and we are really excited to create a little community of people who may already be writing in other genres, but want to try their hand at writing for children up to Young Adults. We hope to strengthen networks for local children’s writers and illustrators through our little, unfunded journal.”
‘The Shadow Behind Me’ is available now from Lapwing Publications, ISBN: 978-1910855386, pp44.
