Be Not Afraid: An Anthology in Appreciation of Seamus Heaney, is set to be released later this year by Lapwing Publications.
The anthology, edited by Angela Topping, Bethany Pope and Grant Tarbard, sees work written by contemporary poets influenced by “the treasures and trauma we have all inherited in his work”, with cover art by Jane Burn.
Publisher Dennis Greig has confirmed approval of the book from the Heaney Estate, stating that “we are good to go!” The anthology was provisionally planned for 2016 under the title “A Festschrift to Seamus Heaney”, but was delayed by rights issues and the health of the publisher.
The anthology contains poems and recollections from the likes of Angela Carr, Peter O’Neill, Emma McKervey, David Braziel, Geraldine O’Kane, Breda Wall Ryan, Lynda Tavokoli, Wilma Kenny, Lesley Martin, Mab Jones, and many more.
Dennis Grieg, writing of the anthology in 2016: “It is from reading his poems as well as personal recollections of the man in a range out-giving contacts with the authors that this Anthology derives… I find myself wordlessly inept to write more about Seamus Heaney or the Anthology, the words within are sufficient in themselves.”
No formal release date has yet been announced, but it is anticipated the book will be released in the next few months.
