Lofoco Chaps, an offshoot of Moria Books, was started specifically to encourage political poetry. Their first project is to publish 100 chapbooks for the first 100 days of Donald’s Trump’s administration, with all of the chapbooks being printed and delivered to the White House.
Editor William Allegrezza is overseeing this ambitious and Herculean project, steadily releasing new chapbooks online every few days. Their website has received over 26,000 unique visits since Trump’s inauguration. Each of the chapbooks are all free to read online as downloadable pdfs, and each can be purchased in hardcopy for around £6 / $5.
Most of the poets being publishing are also writing reviews of each other’s chapbooks to create energy around the project, with Galatea Resurrects agreeing to publish the reviews. Eileen Tabios, writing for Galatea Resurrects, describes the “genius” of the project as “based partly on whether enough poets would be moved to participate in his ambitious project… what grabbed my attention right away about locofo chaps was its publisher’s plan to send the chaps to the White House. This intention elevates the project from being only a publishing project.”
If you are interesting in submitting and adding to the project, please send your chapbook of 5-25 pages to firstname.lastname@example.org. At the time of writing this article, there are an impressive 71 chapbooks available. We hope Allegrezza achieves his goal of 100.
