A new anthology showcasing new up-and-coming poets received its Belfast launch in Waterstone’s last night.
The Best New British and Irish Poets 2017, published by Eyewear, brings together a diverse and lively group of rising stars from across the UK and Ireland, representing some of the most interesting new voices writing in the English language today.
Six of the featured poets – all either Northern Ireland based or originally from here – read at the launch. Jo Burns, Susannah Dickey, Joe Lines, Emma Must, Geraldine O’Kane and Matthew Rice each shared their anthologised poems, along with other pieces, giving the packed audience a taste of their individual talents and range.
Poems for the anthology were selected by Luke Kennard, who stated that he was “delighted to see such an exceptionally strong showing from Irish/Northern Irish poets – it was a privilege to read the work.”
Entries are now open for the 2018 anthology for UK and Irish poets yet to publish a full collection, judged this year by Maggie Smith.
The Best New British and Irish is available to order from the Eyewear online store, £10.99, ISBN 978-1-911335-48-1
