12NOW writer Claire Savage reveals ‘Magical Masquerade’ children’s book

The first look at Claire Savage‘s new children’s book, Magical Masquerade, has been revealed. A fantasy adventure aimed at children between 9 – 12, the story concerns Felicity, a young girl on not one, but two magical quests, having to solve three riddles that will set her free.

“Summoned by the Pebble People to a world which mirrors her own, but is full of hidden magic, Felicity must use her wits to survive. Can she stop the mysterious smugglers causing mayhem in this darkling realm, and solve the Rhyming Riddler’s puzzles before she’s trapped here forever?

Befriended by Bob, a bookish brownie, and Hatchet, a kidnapped hobgoblin, Felicity soon finds herself lost in a shadowy kingdom cloaked in secrecy and enchantments. Her most startling discovery, however, is yet to come …”

The book was unveiled at Kilross Primary School in Mid-Ulster earlier this month, the first stop in a schools tour by Claire to promote Magical Masquerade. Claire will also be speaking with Denis McNeill on Q Radio this Thursday (February 23rd), which will be airing at 11.25am.

Commenting on the cover, Claire said: “I revealed the cover for Magical Masquerade a couple of weeks ago, which went down really well on social media. It’s been created by Design for Writers, who I think have really captured the essence of the book in the illustration, so I’m really pleased with that.

“The book trailer has also just been released over on my blog and on YouTube, and it was made by my cousin, Laura Crossett, from Blurbox Media and Design. I think trailers are a fun way to help promote books – especially in children’s fiction – and Laura’s done a great job with the animation. I listened to a range of music before picking the final soundtrack, which I think sets the right tone for Magical Masquerade. Feedback on social media says the same, which is good to hear!

“Although Magical Masquerade isn’t being published until April, I’ve already been approached by some local media to chat about it, which is exciting. I’ll be appearing on Q Radio with Denis McNeill, and I’ve a couple more interviews lined up as well. I’ve also already completed my first school author visit and hope to do some more of those.”

Magical Masquerade will be published in April, with an official Belfast launch event planned for June. View the trailer for the book below.
